1. IntroductionRecently we are concerned about increasing dose of UV (ultraviolet rays) caused by decreasing concentration of ozone in the atmosphere because UV are generally injurious to health. It becomes more and more important to intercept UV and secure comfortable life spaces by application of coating of UV absorbers. Further it is desirable if the coating itself could be harmless to mankind, animals, plants and others. However existing solvents for dissolution of UV absorbers are not harmless, and are expensive though the absorption performance is not so high. Our company has developed an excellent UV absorber, have produced a harmless, aqueous emulsion as the solvent, and developed coating techniques. 2. Characteristics of Developed Absorber, Solvent and Coating Techniques (2-1) The developed UV absorber is a new type of venzotriazole, can perfectly absorb the UV of wavelength less than 370 nm, and has excellent transmission characteristics similar to those of glass against the visual light of wavelength greater than 415 nm. It is believed to be much better in quality than the existing ones. (2-2) The solvent for the UV absorber is organic, and is mixed with water to be an aqueous emulsion. Thus the coating material is made. Its viscosity and surface tension are adjusted to appropriate values by annexing various additives. The coating material becomes colorless and transparent as it is dried up. It is almost perfectly odorless and harmless to men and beasts. (2-3) The flow-coating technique is adopted, which can be applied easily to objects of various surface shapes. The thickness of coated film is between 15 micro meter and 20 micro meter. (2-4) Because the coating material is noncombustible and nonexplosive, any safety equipment is not necessary in a factory for production of the coating material and/or performing coating. As a result, the cost is low. (2-5) Because the coating material is the aqueous emulsion, it can be diluted by water to the suitable concentration if there is any demand on the absorption characteristics, depending on the coated object. 3. Although this commodity is the aqueous emulsion, it is
highly adhesive on to glass. After the coated film is dried up, one may
feel that the transparency of glass is slightly improved. In a house with
coated windows, the electric power to an air-conditioner will be saved to
some extent due to the coating when the room is cooled. When the room is
warmed, heat loss due to convection heat transfer from the air in it to

The dried-up coated film is the acrylic one. Therefore it
is generally less harder than glass. However UVcut-100A is a coating
material developed especially for the window glass of car so that the
harder coated film can be formed. Drivers and their companions will be
free from heavy suntan, and the seats and other things in the car will be
guarded from fading of colors. Saving energy can be expected during
air-conditioning as much as for UVcut-100. |

Some kinds of insects with compound eyes respond to the UV
and the visible light of certain wavelengths, and hence tend to gather
around mercury lamps and fluorescent lamps at nights. If the light bulbs
are coated with UVcut-200, the UV of wavelength less than 370 nm and some
extent of the visible light are excluded form the light they emits. Thus

Gibberellin, namely, a growth hormone of plants is weak
against the UV. In agricultural vinyl houses that are coated with sprayed
UVcut-300 on the outside surface, crops grow quickly to become bigger
because the gibberellin is more active. The crops will be colored
uniformly due to the light scattered at the coated film. Thus the quality
of crops is improved. From the viewpoint of working environment, workers
